Cinema returns to Brighouse after 40 year absence

At Harrison Lord we are very proud to be part of the Brighouse Business Initiative. This band of volunteers organises fantastic community events around the town. It’s great to see our efforts bringing 1000’s of people into the town and creating a real sense of pride in Brighouse. Our latest idea is to put on some evening entertainment in the form of a cinema at the Civic Hall. Here’s a report of what happened.

Last Thursday night saw over 100 people attending the first cinema showing in Brighouse for over 40 years. The show at the Civic Hall of the latest Disney movie “Wreck It Ralph” was organised by the Brighouse Business Initiative as part of their community involvement scheme. Entirely run by volunteers and not for profit, the cinema showings are designed to give local people the chance of a good, reasonably priced night out in Brighouse town centre.
“When the film started showing I felt really proud that we are able to bring family entertainment back to Brighouse. We are very keen to bring back the magic of cinema’s heyday with theatrical lighting, an interval for ice cream in the middle of the showing and an organ recital. A special thanks must go to Robert Brett of Treble Clef without who’s technical expertise & equipment this show would not have been possible. He was able assisted by Peter who also played the organ in the interval.”
Initially, the plan is to make the first Thursday in the month “Cinema @ the Civic” night. Next month’s showing will be Les Miserables on Thursday 2nd May at 7pm. See our What’s On page for news of future presentations.
